Book Review: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Surprise! Yes, I am writing a book review on a Wednesday because I don’t have any recipes to share with you today. And, also if you have been following me for a long time you might know that I was doing a series about how to get rid of low-self esteem. But, sadly I had the whole thing ready and somehow it all got deleted. This is life, things happen. But don’t worry, I will be preparing it again for you and it will be up in no time!

Eleanor and Park. Okay, so this book is all about these two characters, obviously. Eleanor is the new girl in school, she doesn’t fit in but she surely draws everyone’s attention towards her, without even trying. All this because of her weird choice of clothes and beautiful red locks.

Park, a smart Asian boy who is literally obsessed with comics and music. And in turn, converts Eleanor into the obsessed one, too.

At first, Eleanor and Park don’t get on well, like at all. So much that, even when they are sitting beside each other on the bus, keeping a 6 inch gap between them, they don’t talk. Not even a hello. Weird, right? But, soon they start talking because Park finds Eleanor peeping into his comic which he reads on his way to school. He starts giving her comics and they start talking about them and slowly, they start liking each other. Even though Park finds Eleanor very weird and stupid, he still gets feelings for her.

Okay, so my opinions now! When I first started reading the book I was like “Oh god, such a boring book” because it didn’t have any kind of twist. Or anything interesting to read about. But gradually, even though the plot wasn’t totally interesting, I started liking the book. I don’t know why. Maybe it was because I was bored. Also, I used to get super annoyed with Eleanor because she cries for no reason, gets angry for no reason, does things for no reason. Like, when she meets Park’s mom, she feels embarrassed and decides to leave even though his mom tries his best to be good with her. In conclusion, this was a book I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. No offence to Rainbow Rowell, but this particular book didn’t really get to me. I couldn’t even get myself to finish reading this book and this happens very rarely.

  1. My favorite Rainbow Rowell book is ‘Fangirl’. Funny I should say that when I’m not even done reading it completely yet haha. But you should read that too if you haven’t already. It’s REALLY good!
